The MCP2515 from Microchip Technology is a stand-alone CAN controller IC in a DIP-18 package. It interfaces with microcontrollers via an SPI protocol, simplifying CAN bus integration. Supporting CAN 2.0B protocol, it handles both 11-bit and 29-bit message frames. The device features two receive buffers with priority and filtering, and three transmit buffers with prioritization, supporting speeds up to 1 Mbps. Operating with a 2.7V to 5.5V supply, it offers low power consumption, a high-speed SPI interface (10 MHz), and interrupt outputs for efficient event-driven programming.
